Emu

Animal facts

The Emu is Australia’s largest native bird, measuring between 1.5–1.9m. It is a flightless bird but can run up to 40mph.

These birds have a gizzard and need to swallow large stones to help them to grind up their food.

The Emu population in the wild is expanding due to the Cereal farms that are growing in Australia and the increase in artificial watering points for cattle.

Emu’s have lived in Australia for 80 million years.
