Our five intelligent Californian sealions love to show off and demonstrate their natural behaviours for zoo visitors.

Sealion Splash!

See our resident sealions jump, swim and frolic in the splashzone as they demonstrate what incredible acrobats they really are.

With 'splash and dash' as the motto, you can't help but have fun in our Sealion Splash demonstation. Get ready to run if you don't want to get a good soaking from our Californian sealions.

Sealion facts

Animal facts

Sealions are extremely agile in the water, using their front flippers to power themselves along. They have excellent underwater vision and their whiskers are very sensitive to vibrations in the water. The fur is short, sleek and waterproof.

Where they live

West coast of California (USA). Also Galapagos Archipelago

Sea, isolated beaches and rocky coastlines

Meet the gang

Dom Dom

Age: 4

A very clever and even crafty sealion, Dom likes to monkey around and ad-lib his way through Sealion Splash.

Bailey Bailey

Age: 4

She's probably the best behaved of the gang. She likes to follow her keeper around, and is always the first to respond to a whistle.

Lara Lara

Age: 3

An extremely energetic youngester, Lara just can't keep still. She's always on the go and eager to please!

Kyra

Age: 2 Kyra

Kyra is still young but she is a quick learner. She likes to show off, and sometimes gets carried away with herself. Her concentration can wander, making for some unexpected finales to the demonstrations.

Salt Salt

Age: 26

The mother of Dom and the grand old lady of the group, Salt has retired from Sealion Splash but likes to keep a motherly eye on the others.
