Stamford Raffles Lecture 2008 - Jeff Sachs - Common Wealth: Economics for a Crowded Planet

We are delighted to announce that the 2008 Stamford Raffles Lecture will be given by Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs. “Common Wealth: Economics for a Crowded Planet” will discuss ways to achieve the four key goals of our global society: environmental sustainability (including a solution to climate change), the stabilization of the world’s population, the end of extreme poverty, and a new era of global cooperation to solve common problems.

Common Wealth: Economics for a Crowded Planet

At the 2008 Stamford Raffles lecture, Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs will discuss the challenges of sustainable development in the 21st century. He will outline an approach to achieve four global goals by 2050:

  • Sustainable systems of energy, land and resource use
  • Stabilization of the world's population at 8 billion or below
  • The end of extreme poverty by 2025
  • A new approach to global problem solving

Professor Jeff Sachs Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs brings to these issues his experience as the Director of The Earth Institute at Columbia University, Special Advisor to the United Nations Secretary-General, former Director of the UN Millennium Project, economic advisor to developing countries around the world, and President of the Millennium Promise Alliance.

Admission to the lecture and reception will be by ticket only. Please download booking form for further information.

All tickets must be purchased in advance and are subject to availability.

Guests are requested to arrive by 6.45pm; the Lecture will begin at 7.00pm prompt.
A reception will follow the lecture and is scheduled between 8.00 and 9.30pm.
