For the Zoo, Rojan, 1935

Rojan (also known by the name Feodor Rojankovsky), was a Russian emigre illustrator who settled in Paris before fleeing to the United States after the German occupation of France in 1941. He was best known for his illustrations for children's books. Born in Russia 1891, died 1970, and designed posters for London Transport in 1935.

Take them to The Zoo, James Henry Dowd, 1924

James Henry Dowd was primarily a draughtsman, etcher and painter who specialised in illustrating children, particularly for the books by Brenda Spender. He was a regular contributor to The Graphic. From 1906 he contributed to Punch and became the magazine's first film cartoonist. Born 1884, died 1956. He designed posters for the Underground Group from 1924-1926.

Reginald Rigby designed posters for London Transport in 1915 and 1925.

Whipsnade, Arnrid Banniza Johnston, 1932

Arnrid Johnston was most renown for his lithographic illustrations for Penguin books in particular Puffin Picture Books. They were edited by Noel Carrington who employed young artists to illustrate this series of inexpensive (cost only sixpence) cheerful, colourful books aimed at educating children. He designed posters and adverts for the Underground Group and London Transport c1930-1940

Whipsnade by Green Line, G Stanislaus Brien, 1935

G Stanislaus Brien, born in Poland, was a lino-cut artist. He designed posters for the London & North Eastern Railway and Shell, as well as for the Underground and London Transport in 1935.

The Zoological Society of London was founded in 1826 by Sir Stamford Raffles. Since then, their mission has been to promote and achieve the worldwide conservation of animals and their habitats in the wild as well as at ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo.
