Jo Dodds - Senior Veterinary Nurse ZSL Whipsnade Zoo
Jo joined ZSL in 1997 as the veterinary nurse at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo.
Jo qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 1991. She previously worked for The Wild Animal Rescue Foundation in Thailand working on the rehabilitation of 72 gibbons and 80 macaques. She also worked at The Wildlife Hospital Trust in the UK prior to joining ZSL.
As well as the day to day care of inpatients Jo is responsible for working with the animals and their keepers on training behaviours for specific routine treatments which minimises the stress for the animals and in some cases avoids the need for giving animals general anaesthetics.
Jo work extensively with the elephants and the keepers in the run up to Artificial Insemination treatment which has so far lead to the successful breeding of two calves.
