Kiki Turtle Tracking Map

Kiki the green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) was waved off on a very important journey across the high seas in late May – with a top of the range satellite tag attached to her shell.

Follow Kiki's journey using our satellite map. The map will update itself every time Kiki comes up to breathe as she swims across the Western Indian Ocean.

Kiki was tagged on Vamizi Island, in the far north of Mozambique, where she was nesting. She laid 3 nests, which will be monitored over the next few months until they have hatched, before setting off on her migration back to her feeding grounds. In the first few weeks since she was tagged she stuck close to home venturing no further than around 30 km away from the northern end of Vamizi island. It soon came to light that this was because she had another three nests to lay before she could start her migration north. How far will she travel now? Keep visiting this page to find out.
