Mikongo Conservation Centre
The centre is a project run by ZSL as part of its Bushmeat and Forests Conservation Programme.

The centre was established as an ecotourism project with European Commisssion funds in 1999 and welcomed its first visitors in 2001. ZSL started supporting the project in 2001 and took over full management of the site in 2005, developing a gorilla conservation and research station alongside the ecotourism camp.
Our long-term goal is that the income from tourism (from park permits and direct tourism revenues) will support the management of Lopé National Park. It will also help with wildlife monitoring and research, community education and development initiatives in the villages located in the park, helping the conservation of western lowland gorillas and their ecosystem as a whole.
So by visiting Mikongo Conservation Centre you directly contribute to gorilla and forest conservation.
