Traditionally made from a pair of seed pods attached to a length of cord.

Brightly painted cas-cas come from Bali whilst the more natural seed pod cas-cas are from Senegal or Ghana.

To play, hold one cas-cas in the palm of the hand with the cord between the index
and third finger. Then gently and slowly “chop” the air. This action should swing the other pod over to lightly hit the first one, producing both rhythmic percussive and shaker sounds.
