Karla Berry- Veterinary Nurse ZSL Whipsnade Zoo

“Working in the zoo environment has always been my dream job as I get to work with my favourite animals the Giraffes.”

Karla joined the vet department at Whipsnade in September 2007 as a locum vet nurse covering maternity leave, and became a permanent member of staff in October 2008.

Karla qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 1999, although has been involved in veterinary nursing since 1990. She has worked mainly in small animal private practice and the PDSA, and went to work in Thailand for two years for the Koh Chang Animal Foundation. Her work for the foundation included dealing with road traffic accidents, and carrying out neutering and worming programmes. While in Thailand Karla also worked for the Bang Qwan Chang elephant camp.

“My day here in the Whipsnade vet department is different every day and I enjoy the fresh challenges it brings. It has always been an ambition of mine to work with such amazing creatures and to learn more about them.”
