Each EMS placement will be based on a three-week module. There will be a total of four successive placements at both ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, giving a total of eight placements for the summer.

The placements offer a unique opportunity for a veterinary undergraduate to “see practice” with colleagues working full time in the field of zoo and wild animal medicine and pathology. In addition, during clinically quiet periods, the student will be expected to produce a short, written case report and to write up a project to present as an informal Powerpoint presentation during the last week of their placement.

To be eligible a student must be about to start their final year at a veterinary school by the time the placement starts and be committed to a complete three week period. The three-week periods commence on the following dates June 29th, July 20th, August 10th and August 31st.

Applications should be in the form of a letter of intent supported by a full CV and the names of two referees. The preferred site for the placement must be specified and preferred and available dates should be given.

Applications for both ZSL London and Whipsnade Zoos should be sent to the Administration Supervisor Living Collections, Claire Cunningham at the above address or emailed to ems@zsl.org by April 7th 2008. Successful applicants will be informed of their placement and the dates by 30 May, 2008.
