Example population trends

The following graphs, taken from the Living Planet Report 2008, illustrate the building blocks that are used to calculate the LPI. These examples give an insight into trends in animal populations from different locations but do not necessarily represent the picture for the entire species.

Some populations are either stable or increasing, perhaps indicating successful conservation success, while a number of declining trends among populations may hint at key issues that still need to be addressed.

Note: The baseline on all sample graphs is zero
