Steam Train Driver for a Day
4 - 27 Nov 2013 – 9:00 am - 3:30 pm
If you have dreamed of being a train driver since a young child, then why not hop aboard the Great Whipsnade Railway and let that dream come to life.

If you have driven a steam train before, then why not do it on a track with a difference? Drive past Indian rhinos, Asian elephants, camels and deer going about their daily business. The experience is suitable for both beginners and for those who have driven a train before.
As well as driving the train for either 8 or 16 miles on the 2ft 6 in narrow gauge heritage railway, you will get to go behind the scenes at our railway yard and find out what a typical day is actually like as a train driver on the Great Whipsnade Railway, better known to Zoo visitors as the Jumbo Express.
The experience
As an honorary steam train driver you will have the opportunity to shovel coal, test the brakes and couple carriages and of course handle the controls of a powerful steam locomotive. You will receive a full health and safety briefing upon arrival and the experience includes a complementary lunch and plenty of cups of tea and coffee to keep you going!
Dates available now for November 2013
The experience will initially run from 9.00am to 3.30pm.
