Whipsnade Arts Society Speed-Sketching Workshop
28 Jun 2013 – All Day
Speed sketching day with Helen Vidler (28th June)
Aspiring professional artist Helen Vidler (BAHons, MFA) works in several different media including pen, pencil, acrylics, clay, multi-texture and photography. Much of her work portrays animals, inspired by sketches made from life on trips abroad and at collections such as Whipsnade Zoo. Her work has been exhibited in galleries, museums and as part of the Bucks Open Studio event as well as in murals at Odds Farm Park.
Join Helen and a small group of other Whipsnade Art Society members for a day improving your observational sketching skills. The day will begin with an opportunity for all participants to introduce themselves, their previous experience and interests, when Helen will explain where her love of wildlife art comes from.
There will follow an exercise in sketching from life, honing the skills required to create a quick visual record of animals who are likely to move off without notice! Time will then be spent out in the zoo exercising these skills and gathering sketches for use later in the day when all participants will have the opportunity to work on a finished piece, which might be quite abstract. The day will conclude with an opportunity to share your own and comment upon others’ work.
Participants will need to bring an A5 sketch pad, pens and pencils for sketching and their preferred media for use in the afternoon.
Each workshop costs £60 per adult and £40 for under-16s, who must be accompanied by a paying adult. Numbers are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. You must be registered as a member of the Whipsnade Art Society to book a workshop.
As a special offer to mark the launch of the Whipsnade Art Society, existing ZSL Members can register free for the Whipsnade Art Society in 2013.
