Experience a tropical rainforest in Whipsnade
Tuesday 26 April 2005
The Rainforest exhibit in Whipsnade’s Discovery Centre has undergone a revamp and now gives visitors the opportunity to visit a South American rainforest
Visitors are in for a treat, as the new area now features a waterfall, tropical planting and a chance to see our saki monkeys Pithecia pithecia and golden-headed lion tamarins Leontopithicus chrysomelas enjoying their new home. We have also introduced acouchis Myoprocta acouchy (a large, ground dwelling, green South American rodent) to the area to give it a real rainforest feel.
Our animals now have new indoor and outdoor play areas, linked by a passage that literally runs above the visitor walkway – allowing people to see these fantastic animals exhibiting their natural behaviours at close quarters.
The Discovery Centre has always proved popular with its residents and visitors alike but now we can all experience a little bit of South America no matter what the British weather brings!
