Last of the autumn leaves...

Thursday 5 November 2009

ZSL Whipsnade Zoo’s herd of Asian elephants had great fun playing with fallen autumn leaves during an afternoon stroll.

Whilst baby Donna was a bit shy at first, big brother Euan delved straight in and began happily munching on the leaves.

Donna soon realised that there was great fun to be had and stomped her way through the giant pile of bronzed leaves under the watchful eye of mum.

Born at the end of July, Donna now joins her mum Kaylee and other members of the herd on a walk around the 600 acres of ZSL Whipsnade Zoo.

Come rain, wind or shine the elephants are taken on a daily walk by their keepers, as it’s a great form of enrichment for them, to keep them both mentally and physically active.

At this time of year the walk is a particularly pleasant experience, where visitors and elephants alike can enjoy the beautiful view of the red, yellow and gold trees on display at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo.
