Keepers at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo are hoping their female rhinos will follow the lead of their one brave male in getting into their lovely heated indoor pools.

So far the ladies in the herd of Asian one-horned rhinos have been a bit reluctant to dip so much as a toe into the water at the Rhinos of Nepal exhibit.

The plush des res, with its three stalls, includes temperature controlled wallowing pools, proving the mighty giants with a warm place to splash in all year round.

The three adult females Beluki, Bihan and Roopa have shown no enthusiasm for getting in for a dip, although they are happy wallowing in their outdoor pools. Keepers are pursuing efforts with the girls, enticing them into the water with their favourite fruit and veg.

Now it’s hoped Hugo’s clear delight will spur them on and reassure them they should ‘come on in, the water’s lovely!’
