Children's Farm
Besides the exotic species living at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, you will also discover some unusual domesticated animals, as well as some familiar breeds, among the residents of the Children's Farm.
Meet the residents
Alongside some of your more typical breeds, such as horses, cows, turkeys and donkeys, there are one or two more unusual characters browsing around, namely a Bactrian camel, alpacas, llamas, silky chickens, and some rather royal goats.
Free-roaming
At the Children's Farm you will find lots of free-roaming animals so you can see our creatures up close! Turkeys, silky chickens, sheep and Nubian goats all wander among the visitors in a farm-setting.

Pip the Joey Wallaby
The tiny wallaby named Pip was abandoned by her mother and so is being hand-reared by Alex, who is using her rucksack as a makeshift pouch for the little marsupial.
Alex, 29, who works on the farm section and with the sealions, keeps Pip with her during the day at all times, just as her real mum might do and also has to make sure she is fed – every four hours.
Pip now lives on the zoo’s Children’s Farm, and when she's old enough will be hopping around with the other free roamers!
Spotlight on alpacas
Alpacas are a domesticated species from South America. They are bred for their fur or fibre which is similar to sheep's wool and is used for making woven or knitted clothes. You may mistake alpacas for the more well-known llama but they are actually much smaller than llamas and have smaller more pointed ears.
