Reticulated giraffe

  • In the wild giraffes will live in groups of between 4-20 animals.
  • When fully grown, males can reach a whopping 19ft in height, which is a bit bigger than our adult male Bruno
  • Giraffes are herbivores, this means that their diet will consist wholly of vegetation. In the wild, they will mainly feed on acacia and combretum trees but will eat as many as 100 different plants depending on which are available at the time!
  • Giraffes have extremely long tongues – they can be up to about 45cm long.
  • Giraffes can run fast when needed, reaching speeds of around 35mph.

Savannah - Giraffe

Savannah is a laid back, friendly and inquisitive giraffe who gets on well with the rest of ZSL Whipsnade Zoo’s giraffes. She’s a good mother and is very protective of her two sons.
