ZSL London Zoo welcomes red kangaroos to the outback!

ZSL London Zoo has welcomed a trio of red kangaroos to our Australian Outback section.
Three new male red kangaroos, Pirri, Ian and Bongo, have joined ZSL London Zoo, helping to complete London’s Australian Outback section.
The three lads have been adapting well to their new home, after enjoying some summer sun that no doubt reminded them of their outback origins.
“Ian and Bongo, in particular, settled in very quickly,” says keeper Lucy Reed. “Since their arrival they’ve been out and about, happily nibbling on the grass and lazing at the top of their hill.”

“Pirri was a little more nervous at first and initially spent most of his time in their shed. He’s much more confident now and often joins the others munching the grass – however, he does still have a soft spot for his lovely big shed though.”
Visitors can often find Pirri, the largest male, chilling out inside the shed, in front of the big viewing windows. “He’s mostly unfazed by people and happy to be admired – which happens quite often as we all have a bit of a soft spot for him!”

While Pirri soaks up the attention, his companion Bongo prefers the quite life and keeps to himself. Ian, however, likes to be inquisitive and loves exploring his new home. “Though he is very inquisitive, he is at the same time the nerviest of the three, so although he can’t resist having a look at what’s going on, he often ends up literally making himself jump!”

Visitors can see our red kangaroos by hopping over to the Outback section, next to the Mappin Pavilion.
