I don't believe it - two new additions to ZSL London Zoo
Tuesday 2 October 2007
The Meldrews have moved to ZSL London Zoo! Victor and Margaret Meldrew the South American tortoises that is. The adult pair have now settled comfortably into the Clore Rainforest Lookout.
The animals, which transferred from Colchester Zoo, are of a yellow-footed variety and add to the collection of ground dwellers at ZSL London Zoo. Named in a tribute to the tortoise in the title sequence for One Foot In The Grave, the Meldrews bring along with them future additions - Margaret is pregnant with 10 eggs that are to be incubated immediately after being laid.
We are happy to report that the animals are speedily walking around their enclosure and eating well. Staff are closely monitoring the food intake of the tortoises and will shortly integrate them with the other reptiles penned in the same enclosure.
