1,000 runners raise £40,000 stampeding through ZSL London Zoo

The Zoological Society of London (ZSL) held its brand new 10k fundraising run on Sunday 16 September and raised a staggering £40,000 for its Zoos and conservation work.

The sold-out Stampede saw 1,000 runners race past some of the world’s most amazing animals, including western lowland gorillas and a mob of meerkats before heading out to tackle the wilderness of Regent’s Park.
Mo, ZSL London Zoo’s common buzzard, squawked to start racegoers on their run, which saw Peter James crowned the winner with an impressive time of 35 minutes 35 seconds.
Runners finished by stampeding back through the Zoo past Penguin Beach, where Ricky the rockhopper was on hand to see them over the finishing line. Many then spent the rest of the day enjoying the Zoo at a more leisurely pace with their families who had come to cheer them on.
Every pound raised through the sold-out ZSL Stampede will help the charity care for and conserve some of the world’s most endangered animals at ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo and through its conservation work in more than 50 countries.
The Stampede was supported by Danone Waters (UK and Ireland) Ltd who gave 1,000 bottles of Volvic natural mineral water, Sweatshop, who provided race numbers and money off vouchers, and local retailer Whole Foods Market Camden, who provided 1,000 goody bags for runners and hampers for the winners.
