James Henry Dowd was primarily a draughtsman, etcher and painter who specialised in illustrating children, particularly for the books by Brenda Spender. He was a regular contributor to The Graphic. From 1906 he contributed to Punch and became the magazine's first film cartoonist. Born 1884, died 1956. He designed posters for the Underground Group from 1924-1926.

The Zoological Society of London was founded in 1826 by Sir Stamford Raffles. Since then, their mission has been to promote and achieve the worldwide conservation of animals and their habitats in the wild as well as at ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo.
