Taina Strike ZSL Veterinary Officer
Tai is originally from South Africa and joined ZSL in 2000.
Whilst studying veterinary medicine, Tai volunteered at Pretoria Zoo and in game parks and first came into contact with ZSL London Zoo as part of her MSc in wild animal health.
Working as a vet for ZSL 'encompasses far more than just vet or zoo work,' says Tai. 'We have an important role in wild life education and in the field, and contribute to saving endangered species.'
Especially interested in reproduction, Tai has been involved in monitoring the elephant pregnancies and births at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo and the tiger breeding programme at ZSL London Zoo. 'One moment I’ll be treating a 3g frog, the next a 5 ton elephant! The work is so varied, there is always something to challenge me.'
