Our Shark Obsession

Humans' complex relationship with the ocean's top predators, and its implications for the sea.

For centuries, sharks have occupied a special place in the human psyche. Humans used to worship them, but then came to fear and loathe them. Juliet Eilperin - The Washington Post's national environmental reporter and author of the book, "Demon Fish: Travels Through the Hidden World of Sharks," now out in the UK- will explore sharks' complicated relationship with humans, their role in the ocean's ecosystem, and the fight to save them before they disappear altogether.

Juliet Eilperin has received numerous environmental fellowships and honours, including the Ocean Science Journalism Fellowship from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution; the Western Enterprise Reporting Fellowship and Hoover Media Fellowship from Stanford University; and the Templeton-Cambridge Fellowship in Science & Religion. In 2011 she won the Peter Benchley Ocean Award for Media. She also served as the youngest-ever McGraw Professor of Journalism at Princeton University in 2005, and delivered the Muncy Journalism and Politics Lecture at the University of Kansas in 2006.
