Giving wild tigers a future
21st Century Tiger is one of the most significant tiger funding agencies worldwide, supplying over a million pounds to over 65 wild tiger conservation projects in six countries since 1997.
Established as a coalition between the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) and Global Tiger Patrol, the agency itself is based and administered at ZSL.
Projects that are supported by 21st Century Tiger from large-scale anti-poaching and wildlife-trading projects in Sumatra and Russia to resettlement projects in India.
Knowledge and information on what tigers need to survive is essential for successful conservation and so 21st Century Tiger also supports ecological studies in both Sumatra – ZSL’s own Jambi Tiger Project - and Russia – a long-term monitoring and research project with the Wildlife Conservation Society.
21st Century Tiger funding come from the public, business and even the UK government and one hundred percent of donations go direct to the field projects.
A special feature of 21st Century Tiger is its links with international zoos. It has acted as the official channel for tiger conservation campaigns run by the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA) and the Australasian zoo association (ARAZPA). The EAZA campaigns were particularly successful, raising a staggering three-quarter of a million euros!
Many zoos continue to support tiger conservation through 21st Century Tiger, making use of our pictures, news items and projects in their educational and awareness materials as well as raising money.
