Oryx in the Tunisian desert
Scimitar-horned oryx are one of the focal species we are trying to conserve in the Sahelo-Saharan region. They became extinct in the 1980s. In 1985 ZSL funded the return of Scimitar-horned Oryx from UK zoos to Tunisia – today this group of 40-100 animals live in a fenced area of restored natural habitat.
