After consultation with MAFF officials and its vets, the Zoological Society of London has continued to implement the following protocols at its animal collections, London Zoo and Whipsnade Wild Animal Park. Precautionary measures were put in place on Friday 23 February to prevent infection of the unique collections of endangered species at both sites by this disease. Senior ZSL staff are continuously monitoring the situation and are keeping in close contact with MAFF and the local authorities.
London Zoo:
London Zoo is OPEN to visitors. As a precaution, everyone (including visitors) who enters London Zoo will walk across disinfected matting. Visitors are also being asked to identify themselves if they have been on a farm with animals, or in contact with farm animals in the last week (7 days). Regrettably, if this is the case, London Zoo has been asking these visitor(s) to postpone their visit to the Zoo until the Foot and Mouth outbreak is over.
Please note that the Giraffe House, and Children's Zoo, are closed to London Zoo's visitors as an extra precaution. Visitors will still be able to see the giraffes in their outside paddock.
