And baby makes Zoo!

Both of our zoos have been successful in breeding a wide variety of animals. Here's our celebration of the patter of tiny feet and flutter of newborn wings that we've seen recently.
Tango the Francois Langur monkey

ZSL London Zoo has welcomed Tango, a rare ginger monkey, who has been standing out from the crowd. Francois Langur monkeys are born ginger and only turn black after a few months.

Mtoto the giraffe

After keepers at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo struggled to come up with a name for their giraffe calf, ZSL website visitors were asked to vote for a name.
The race was 'neck and neck' between Mtoto and Puzzle.A late surge saw nearly 600 people vote for Mtoto, which means 'baby' in Swahili.
Little and Large: flamingos

These baby flamingos caused zookeepers problems at ZSL London Zoo earlier this year - because they did’t like the colour pink.
Even though flamingos don’t see colours like people, Little and Large, who are being hand reared by keepers, were not fans of a certain shade of pink.

Conchita: international superstar

With only a few white-naped mangabey monkeys left struggling for survival in the wild after, each individual monkey is incredibly precious.
Conchita quickly became a beacon of hope for her species as well as an international star on YouTube, thanks to her amazing diary series
Chocolate the Moose

Whipsnade's caramel-coloured newcomer, Chocolate the moose, was born on ZSL Whipsnade Zoo's 80th birthday, 23 May 2011.
Roo and Lia the meerkats
Zookeepers took the Zoo’s baby meerkats, sisters Lia and Roo, into their care after their mother abandoned them.
The motherless youngsters soon got a new mummy in the guise of zookeeper Suzi Hyde, who took care of the duo day and night.
Baby rhino
The birth of Ajang, which is Nepalese for 'enormous', delighted both zoo keepers and conservationists who work with his critically endangered species in the wild.
Ula the Przewalski’s horse

Przewalski’s horses are the only breed of wild horse still in existence. They are critically endangered, making Ula a very rare foal indeed.
The burrowing owls
He might not have got a card for Father’s Day but ZSL London Zoo bird keeper Darren Jordan quickly became a surrogate dad to three young owlets. The trio were rescued from their underground nest box after heavy rains threatened to flood.

Vale the red titi monkey

Vale, the red titi monkey, was the first baby to be born in ZSL London Zoo’s rainforest biome.
His mum Yara and dad Thiago are famous at the Zoo for being really loved-up, so much so that they regularly sleep with their tails entwined!
