20 March 2023

Spring is a beautiful time of year to get out and about at Whipsnade Zoo. With 600 acres of land, 10,000 animals and special Easter events, there are plenty of activities for the whole family this season.

As a ZSL member, you can enjoy unlimited free entry to Whipsnade and London Zoos the whole year round.

1. Hop about with wallabies and maras

Wallaby in springtime in front of daffodils

Look out for our free-roaming wallabies and maras as they hop around the Zoo. You might spot them among the daffodils - they love to rest there. Other top places to see them are near the penguins and running in the trees between our yaks and elephant enclosure.

It’s baby season so keep a look out for joeys (baby wallabies) and pups (baby maras) too.

2. Enjoy our Easter events for all the family

This Easter, join Pip and Posy discovering the amazing animals at Whipsnade Zoo. Enter their wonderful world of play, friendship and exploration following a family-friendly trail to learn about some of Whipsnade's impressive animal residents.

Start with a visit to Whipsnade's super-social ring-tailed lemurs, dig into a sand 'snufflepit' like a wild boar, get creative to craft a perfectly snug bug hotel for some of the smallest creatures, and much more. Featuring two looped trails, it's perfect for little legs! And it's all included in your Zoo ticket or membership.

3. Enjoy the spring blooms

Blossom-filled trees

At this time of year, the Zoo’s wildlife-friendly plants and flowers are coming into their own. Wander through the grounds and enjoy the wide variety of foliage, specially selected by our horticultural team.

Later in the season, take a stroll down Central Avenue and enjoy a burst of colour and fragrance when our blossom trees are in full bloom.

4. Look out for our new arrivals

Critically Endangered Visayan warty pigs Tess and Tadeo at Whipsnade Zoo

We've had lots of baby animals born in the last year! Reticulated giraffe, Luna, gave birth to Wilfred, Asian elephant Donna welcomed Nang Phaya, and short-clawed otter Carol now has Pistachio and Peanut to take care of. Plus, meet our newest arrival, Critically Endangered Visayan warty piglet Tadeo. Many of our animals are endangered in the wild and the new arrivals are really important as part of European-wide collaborative breeding programmes.

5. Have a Hullabazoo adventure

Hullabazoo adventure play

Explore our themed Hullabazoo Adventure Play. Mini safari jeeps, swings, bridges, tunnels, climbing frames, and much more, will keep young adventurers entertained. And don’t forget to pay your favourite farmyard animals a visit in Hullabazoo Farm

6. Ride the The Great Whipsnade Railway

Steam train at Whipsnade Zoo

Go on a safari adventure aboard one of our steam engines, Excelsior and Superior. We’ll take you on a wildlife tour across the continents. You’ll see camels, rhinos, elephants and so much more!
