Habitat conservation - ZSL London Zoo
At ZSL London Zoo we are a partner in the London Borough of Camden’s Biodiversity Action Plan, and we are increasingly managing the whole site as a refuge for urban wildlife.
Conservation action includes leaving log piles for stag beetles, placing boxes for bats and nesting birds, and erecting feeding stations for birds. We also encourage populations of locally rare birds like house sparrows and herons.
By careful planting, following organic principles, food and shelter are being improved for populations of insects, birds and mammals. Habitat corridors for wildlife are being created both within the site and with adjacent Regent’s Park, for example by planting new hedgerows.
