Antelope conservation in Saudi Arabia

ZSL’s team at the King Khalid Wildlife Research Centre re-introduced 240 Sand gazelles to Uruq Bani Ma’arid in the Saudi Arabian Empty Quarter in 1995 and 1996. Arabian oryx were brought from Saudi Wildlife Commission ’s National Wildlife Research Centre at the same time. The KKWRC team brought 70 Mountain gazelles to Uruq Bani Ma’arid in 1997. ZSL field staff have assisted in monitoring the progress of all three species ever since.

These photographs show the excellent condition of the wild descendents who have been flourishing under SWC protection.
