Community education
No conservation project is successful without the support of people. NTNC community officers will be visiting villages in the national park buffer zones, to give interactive education to both the children and adults. A mobile education unit will take educational material on the wildlife, grassland and ideas for sustainable management. There will also be a National and International awareness campaign highlighting the critical situation with rhino and other endangered species using modern community theatre.
The aim of the education programme is is to improve knowledge of how to live sustainably in the tall grassland ecosystem and, live alongside wildlife without conflict. The message is one of hope for the future with encouragement for the community to value and own the wildlife and help the government to tackle the threats.
The approach will provide a dynamic and popular approach particularly suited to the very poor and disadvantaged communities living in the buffer zones of the national parks.
