Dr. Gombobaatar Sundev (Gomboo)
Steppe Forward Programme Manager

Gomboo is responsible for overseeing all Steppe Forward Programme activities. He is currently working on the Mongolian National Red List for Birds as well as on the Field Guides to the Mammals and Birds of Mongolia.
He is a university professor and head of the Ornithological Laboratory at the National University of Mongolia. He is also the founder and president of the Mongolian Ornithological Society.

Henry

Henry Brown
Steppe Forward Programme International Co-ordinator

Henry is involved in a number of Steppe Forward Programme projects such as the field courses and the Mongolian Red List of Birds. He is also working with the Bactrian camel EDGE Fellow on a conservation strategy for the species in the Great Gobi.He holds a Masters from Imperial College London and has previously worked for Birds Korea and the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation.

Sue

Dr.Susan Townsend
Wildlife Picture Index Project Team Leader

Sue is in charge of all aspects of the Wildlife Picture Index, which is trying to measure the success of species conservation in protected areas across Mongolia based on innovative camera trapping techniques.
She holds a PhD from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and is a wildlife ecologist and consultant.

BAAJII

Batbayar Galtbalt (Baagii)
Steppe Forward Programme National Co-ordinator

Baagii is involved in a number of SFP projects such as the Mongolian Wildlife Picture Index and the Summary Conservation Action Plan for Mongolian Birds. In addition, he is in charge of the Mongolbioweb list server and organises Biobeers, a monthly meeting for biologists and conservationists working in Mongolia. He completed his Masters at the National University of Mongolia, where he studied bird community conservation in the Small Gobi A Strictly Protected Area.

MOOJII

Munkhjargal Myagmar (Moojii)
Steppe Forward Programme Researcher

Moojii is mostly working on the Wildlife Picture Index project and is also involved with other activities such as the SFP field course. In addition she is working on the translation of SFP documents and reports as well as English language ecology textbooks. She graduated from the National University of Mongolia in conservation biology and ecology and was a biology, science and health education teacher before starting at the Steppe Forward Programme.

EDGE Fellows

Adiya Yadamsuren
EDGE Fellow

Adiya is studying the wild Bactrian camel. His research aims to help secure the future of the Critically Endangered Bactrian camel and is working on a conservation strategy for the wild camels.

He is currently working as a researcher at the Institute of Biology, Mongolian Academy of Science, and is also studying for a PhD at the National University of Mongolia focussing on the ecology and conservation of the wild Bactrian camel.

Uuganbadrakh Oyunkhishig (Uuganaa)
EDGE Fellow

Uuganaa was selected to work on the long-eared jerboa. He is trying to determine the population status and distribution of the long-eared jerboa within the Little Gobi Strictly Protected Area and develop a Conservation Action Plan containing detailed management recommendations for the species and its habitat.

He holds a Bachelors and Masters degree from the National University of Mongolia and has previously carried out research for SFP’s community project on sustainable natural resource use and livelihood improvement.

Buuveibaatar Bayarbaatar (Buuvei)
EDGE Fellow

Buuvei is studying the Saiga antelope . He aims to evaluate the potential effects of domestic dogs on saiga antelope populations in Mongolia.
He studied at the National University of Mongolia and works as a wildlife biologist at the Institute of Biology, Mongolian Academy of Science. He is currently working towards a Masters degree at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
