Habitats

Mangroves in the Philippines

An integral part of conserving animals is conserving the habitats on which they rely. Often, the only way to protect a species is to conserve the ecosystem it is part of, benefitting both the other species and the human communities that use the habitat. Some ZSL projects work directly on protecting vulnerable habitats themselves, such as coral reefs, and others protect habitat as part of working to protect a particular species.
