Informing Government
ZSL provides science-based information on the status and trends of the world’s species and ecosystems. We use this information to inform society and policy makers of the magnitude of the current environmental crises and to enable effective priorities to be set and solutions identified.
Healthy Planet Promise
ZSL have teamed up with Client Earth to launch a project to help young people forge a contract with political leaders to protect the planet and its oceans for future generations. The Declaration of Young People’s Rights to a Healthy Planet will be presented to world leaders at the Rio de Janeiro Earth summit in 2012. The goal is that this contract with young people internationally will put more pressure on world leaders to live up to their promises. Find out more and sign the declaration
GLOBE
Ecosystem degradation is one of the greatest challenges we face, putting people and wildlife at risk. Therefore, it is more important than ever for scientists to engage effectively with policymakers.
ZSL act as scientific advisors to GLOBE International, a forum of senior cross-party parliamentarians from G8+5 countries, on terrestrial and marine issues. Find out more about the work of GLOBE
National Red Lists

International targets set for reducing biodiversity loss may still be achieved with the help of a new online conservation tool.
The new initiative led by ZSL brings together information on the world’s threatened species and demonstrates that we know the least about the status of animals and plants in areas where diversity is greatest. Find out more on the National Red List website
Rio+20
ZSL is busy preparing for Rio+20, the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development. The conference will take place next June and is envisaged as a Conference at the highest possible level, attended by heads of state from across the globe. A major theme of the conference is the green economy - the intersection between the environment and economy.
Past Projects
Nagoya
In October 2010, ZSL attended the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) conference in Nagoya, Japan, to communicate the current state of biodiversity and put forward practical solutions for communities, business and government to address biodiversity loss.
At Nagoya we are launched four key reports directly related to the CBD aims of post-2010 goals and mainstreaming biodiversity across sectors.

Stories for our children: the world in 2050
Stories for our Children: The World in 2050 depicts the projected trends for the state of the world’s environment to 2050, based on what is likely to happen if humanity continues to use the planet’s resources the way that we do today without modifying our behaviour.
