ZSL Appoints a New Leader of the Pack

Now one of the seven directors at ZSL, David is no stranger to the Society following four years employment at ZSL most recently in the position of Head of Animal Care.

David’s longstanding background in the world of zoos means he was an exceptional candidate for the Zoological Director position. His expert knowledge and experience provides ZSL with an excellent basis to extend the conservation work already being undertaken both within ZSL and around the world.

Volunteering at Dudley Zoo from 12 years old, David furthered his zoo career by completing a Zoology degree at the University of Cardiff and later a Master of Business Administration. David also holds numerous related posts including chairing the UK Elephant management group. He has also published a range of academic articles about animal conservation.

Zoological Society of London, Zoological Director, David Field said:

“I’m delighted to take on the position of Zoological Director as it fulfils a lifetime ambition. The challenge of leading ZSL’s zoological collection at such an exciting time of change and development is one that I’m looking forward to taking on”.

As Zoological Director, David will oversee the management, health, welfare and development of ZSL’s animal collection as well as the presentation of animals for visitor education. David will also represent ZSL’s interests in the international zoo community and act as the spokesperson on ZSL’s zoo based activities.
