Sad death of Anna the Asian elephant
Thursday 4 July 2002
It is with great sadness that we announce that Anna, one of Whipsnade Wild Animal Park's female Asian elephants, has died. Following what was a complicated birth of a stillborn calf on Monday 1 July, and despite the best efforts of the veterinary staff and the continual attention of her dedicated keepers, she died at 8am on Thursday, 4 July.
"Everyone at Whipsnade Wild Animal Park and The Zoological Society of London is deeply upset by this sad loss" said Nick Lindsay, Senior Curator at the Zoological Society of London. "We are still establishing the cause of Anna's death, and the results of her post mortem will be announced once it has been completed."
