Statement following the inquest into Jim Robson's death at London Zoo

On Tuesday 12th March, the inquest into Jim Robson's death was held at Horseferry Road Coroner's Court. The verdict was accidental death

The tragic death of London Zoo's elephant keeper, Jim Robson on 20 October 2001, deeply affected and saddened everyone at the Zoological Society of London (ZSL).

Jim was a dedicated, experienced and confident elephant handler and died working with the animals he loved. At the time of his death, he was working within existing safety protocols using a style of management that was considered best for the welfare of the elephants at London Zoo

ZSL takes safety issues very seriously and will continue to co-operate with official enquiries.
